Making winter herbal remedies 1: Elderberry syrup and fire cider making workshop

Join us for a series of winter medicine making workshops in collaboration with Melissa Harvey at the Moor Imagination Centre in Buckfastleigh.

Join community-herbalist and grower Melissa Harvey for this hands-on workshop teaching you how to keep yourself warm and well over the winter months. Come along and build your own winter apothecary!

In this workshop we will be making two traditional winter remedies,  elderberry syrup and ‘Fire Cider’, which is a traditional maceration of immune boosting herbs in apple cider vinegar. You will learn about the traditional and current uses of these winter remedies, be introduced to the herbs and how to safely use them, and be taught hands-on medicine making skills. We will be providing organic herbs that have been grown in the Wyse Worts and Radical Plant Folk herb gardens based at School Farm, Dartington.

You will come away with a 200ml bottle of elderberry, thyme and ginger syrup, with the alternative option of a sugar-free glycerite, and also a large jar of herbs infusing in apple cider vinegar, ready to strain out in a few weeks and to use as Fire Cider. All materials and ingredients are included.

Melissa is a community herbalist, trainee medical herbalist, grower and teacher, who also runs Wyse Worts herb nursery.

Where: Moor imagination collective, Buckfastleigh

Cost: £35 to £45 (sliding-scale)
