Distilling Roses Workshop with Miriam Hicklin

Distilling Roses Workshop with Miriam Hicklin
£30.00

Sunday June 14th, 2-5pm

Community Herb Garden, School Farm, Dartington

Join us for a special workshop distilling roses to make rosewater using the traditional copper alembic still.

Folk herbalist and teacher, Miriam Hicklin, will be bringing her knowledge of plant distillation from Morocco, where roses are traditionally distilled. She will guide us into an afternoon of rose scent, poetry, song and story. We will gather roses from the garden and also invite participants to bring their own unsprayed roses from their own gardens (or elsewhere) to be distilled collectively. If you can, please bring scented roses, best picked in the early morning. Traditionally, the damask is distilled, but any with a scent, or a poem/song/story, are most welcome.

Roses have traditionally been used as an uplifting and heart healing medicine since ancient times. They have a long and ancient history of use in the SWANA (South West Asia and North Africa) region, Central Asia, India, China and Europe.

You will learn what hydrosols/aromatic waters are, the healing qualities and traditional uses of roses and rose water and how to use them. You will learn the basics of distilling with the copper still and get to go home with your very own bottle of rose water.

More than just a workshop, this is a chance for us to gather and delve into the world of rose medicine and learn how to reverently make an ancient medicine.

Please book your ticket following the booking link below. For any questions please email hello@radicalplantfolk.com.
